Hashim received his BA in Middle East Studies from UC Santa Barbara and his MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Since graduating from film school, he’s been working as an editor for a Video Marketing Company based in San Diego while pursuing passion projects on the side. His latest endeavour has been in development for a year and his currently set to shoot this September in Northern Sudan. The short film, A Handful of Dates, is based on an Arabic Language short story of the same name from Sudanese author Tayeb Salih, known for his internationally acclaimed novel, Season of Migration to the North. Film Synopsis: A Handful of Dates is an Arabic language short story from Sudanese author Tayeb Salih (1929 – 2009), known for his groundbreaking post-colonial novel, Season of Migration to the North. In this early short story, a nostalgic memory of childhood obscures the reality of a longstanding conflict over a debt of land between a young boy’s prominent grandfather and his helpless village rival, leading to an existential crisis that threatens to shatter the boy’s entire world.
